How the museum found its home in the former BP Refinery administration building.
After the Hastings premises were sold for redevelopment, the Western Port Oberon Association, by now incorporated and with tax deductibility, had to find another home.
The heritage-listed administration building of the now dismantled BP Refinery at Crib Point had been vacant for years. The owners were approached and an agreement was reached for the rental of the property.
The building was without power, as power for the building had been supplied internally from the former refinery. We began the fitout of this magnificent building without power until we were able to get a new supply connected. Two weeks after the completion of the fitout the power was turned on.
In 2005 the museum was opened with great celebrations for those who had worked so hard to bring about a great result.
